Richard Vordermark, 2005 - A two-time all-conference goalkeeper from 1984 to 1987, Richard Vordermark set three Leatherneck records while helping his teams to the best four-year record in school history.

Time has proven Vordermark, who was named to the all-conference team as both a sophomore and junior, to be perhaps the stingiest goalkeeper ever to wear a Leatherneck uniform. The all-time leader in shutouts, he tallied eight in 1985, only to surpass his own school record by two in 1986. Vordermark shut out a total of 20 opponents in 75 games while the Leathernecks compiled a 48-23-4 record with him in goal, winning 66.7 percent of their matches, recording the first two 12-win seasons and the first 14-win campaign in school history. Opponents during Vordermark’s junior season scored fewer goals, 17, than in any other season.

His records for single-season goals against average, shutouts in a season, shutouts in a career and fewest goals allowed in a season still stand. After his senior season, Vordermark was was selected to the U.S. Olympic Festival and played on the U.S. Senior Team North.

Following his playing career, Vordermark served as an assistant coach for the Leathernecks for two seasons while completing his bachelor’s degree in physical education which he received in 1990. He returned to Western and earned a master’s degree in exercise science in 1994. He has spent the last three years as the southwest regional sales manager for A-dec Inc., a dental equipment manufacturer.
