Clear Bag Policy

The Western Illinois Athletics Department adopted a clear bag policy for entrance into Hanson Field beginning in the 2019 season. 

Ensuring the safety of all patrons inside Hanson Field is a top priority at Western Illinois. The policy will provide more security inside Hanson Field, and supports the Department of Homeland Security's "See Something, Say Something" campaign.

The only bags that will now be permitted inside Hanson Field include:
  • Bags that are transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC tote and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small clutch bags no larger than 5.5"x 6.5"
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags after proper inspection at the main gate

Yes, most Missouri Valley Conference and FCS schools enforce a clear bag policy. Fans attending away games are encouraged to check the home institutions policies.
 
Can I bring in a diaper bag?
Diaper bags are permitted and subject to an inspection.
 
Which bags are prohibited?
Common prohibited bags include, but are not limited to: Backpacks, briefcases, camera bags, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, laptop bags, and oversized purses.
 
If I have certain medical items/equipment that I need to bring into the stadium what do I do?
An exception will be made to allow medical items into the stadium. Bags are subject to inspection.
 
What happens if a fan shows up at the gate with a bag that is not permitted?
Fans carrying bags that do not meet the clear bag policy requirements will be asked to return their bags to their vehicle.
 
Is the clear bag policy only for Western Illinois football games?
At this time Western Illinois Athletics has only implemented the clear bag policy for Leatherneck football games at Hanson Field.
