ST. LOUIS, MO. — The Western Illinois Track and Field team delivered a strong performance at the Billiken Alumni Invite, earning several podium finishes and top-10 placements across both track and field events.
Kaytlyn Baker kicked things off for the Leathernecks, claiming first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:20.48.
In the women's 800-meter race, WIU had three top 10 finishes. Hannah Steinmeyer led the way with a sixth-place finish in 2:30.47, followed closely by Aylana Cezar in seventh at 2:30.81. Krissy Petrou rounded out the group in ninth, clocking in at 2:37.45.
Cezar continued her strong day in the 1500-meter run, securing second place with a time of 4:52.18. Lydia Bennett followed in third with a time of 4:56.93. Madison Trevena (5:01.98) and Ava Gorrie (5:07.21) finished sixth and eighth, respectively. Greta Sieren (5:11.52) and Faith Procopio (5:11.62) capped off a dominant showing by the Leathernecks, taking ninth and tenth place in a photo finish.
On the men's side, Jack Knoll placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 11.53 seconds, just ahead of Cage Davidson, who finished sixth in 11.65 seconds. In the 800-meter, Sean Hudspath earned fourth place in 1:59.28, while Eason Comer finished seventh in 2:03.37.
Robert Perry closed out the track events with a standout performance in the 1500-meter run, finishing second overall with a time of 4:05.70.
The Leathernecks also impressed in field events. Cage Davidson claimed first in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters, and Garrison Murray took third with a jump of 5.87 meters. In the javelin, Matthew Thomas secured fifth place with a throw of 29.04 meters.
On the women's side, Brooke Boehm earned second place in the long jump with a mark of 4.99 meters, while Franka Weil-Restrepo took second in the shot put with a throw of 10.60 meters.
The Leathernecks head to the University of Kansas for the Kansas Relays, beginning Thursday, April 17.
