WIU Track & Field Dominates at NIU Huskie Classic

DEKALB, Ill. – Western Illinois Track and Field put together a well-rounded performance at the NIU Huskie Classic, earning multiple event wins, personal bests, and top finishes in both track and field events.

The Leathernecks dominated the field events with several gold-medal performances. Cage Davison led the men's long jump with a winning leap of 7.33 meters, while Toriano Tate followed closely in second with a 7.10 meter mark. Davison also impressed in the 100-meter dash, clocking a personal best of 11.05 seconds for third place. In the women's long jump, Brooke Boehm claimed the top spot with a 5.34 meter jump.

Matthew Thomas earned a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.30 meters. He also placed first in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.95 seconds.

In the women's pole vault, the Leathernecks swept the podium. Emma Ponx and Dana Surwillo took first and second place with vaults of 3.75m. Colleen Johnson took third place with her clearance of 3.55 meters, while Angel Stanley rounded out the top four with her vault of 3.35 meters.

On the track, Richard Brown led the middle-distance group, winning the men's 800 meters, recording a time of 1:53.60. Eason Comer earned a win in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 54.25. Abby Fleming added another podium finish, earning first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with her time of 13:21.28.

Bria Armstrong placed second in the women's 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.10, while Jolena Site and Nakeita Kessling finished second and fourth in the women's 200-meter dash. Freshman Caleb Brown recorded a personal-best 23.12 in the men's 200-meter dash, earning fifth place.

Hannah Steinmeyer placed fourth in the 800m, recording a time of 2:21.10. Lydia Bennett and Madison Trevena went 2-3 in the 1500m, with Bennett setting a new personal best of 4:48.43.

The 4x400m team of Lydia Bennett, Krissy Petrou, Greta Sieren, and Hannah Steinmeyer, claimed first with a time of 4:24.65.

On the men's side, Rayvon Wright and Garrison Murray went 1-2 in the high jump, with Wright clearing 1.91m and Murray clearing 1.71m. Nino Romeo won the javelin throw, recording a throw of 27.46m. In the women's triple jump, Kelsey Hutchins took home first place, clearing 11.24 meters, while Bria Armstrong placed second with her jump of 11.14 meters.

Franka Weil-Restrepo earned third place and set a new personal best in the discus with a mark of 32.60 meters, while Faith Procopio claimed third in the women's 5000m with a season-best time of 19:50.06.

The Leathernecks are back in action on May 9, traveling to Iowa State University for the Cyclone Twilight.
