DES MOINES, IA. – Western Illinois Track and Field made a strong statement at the renowned Drake Relays, delivering standout performances across multiple events over three days.
Day 1 Highlights:
Richard Brown led the Leathernecks, placing 13th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.36. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Aylana Cezar crossed the line in 20th place with a time of 11:16.13. In the 10,000-meter events, Maddie Trevena clocked a 37:44.36 to finish 18th, while Logan Beckmier turned in an impressive performance, securing 12th place with a time of 30:53.02.
Day 2 Performances:
The action continued with Rayvon Wright claiming 14th in the triple jump after a leap of 13.65 meters. In the pole vault, Emma Ponx soared to ninth place with a mark of 3.67 meters, while Dana Surwillo earned an impressive fifth-place finish, clearing 3.82 meters. On the track, Mya Hippolyte sprinted to a 14th-place finish in the 100 meters, posting a time of 11.88 seconds.
Final Day:
The Leathernecks wrapped up the meet with strong showings in the jumps. Cage Davison secured fourth place in the long jump, clearing 7.13 meters. In the Long Jump Championship, Toriano Tate leapt to a sixth-place finish with a mark of 7.19 meters. Arnie Grunert capped off the weekend by taking fourth place in the Pole Vault Championship, clearing an outstanding 5.17 meters.
The Leathernecks are set to travel to Northern Illinois University for the Huskie Classic on May 3.
