MACOMB, Ill. - A pair of Leathernecks won events as the 24th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational came to a close at Hanson Field on Saturday.
The Western Illinois men's track & field team finished in third place out of 20 teams, trailing only Big Ten opponents Illinois and Iowa. The Leatherneck women ended up in fifth out of 15 teams.
Megan McGlone and Dana LaRue each won events for the women. McGlone dominated the triple jump, winning with a leap of 36-09.50, more than a foot ahead of the second-place finisher.
LaRue experienced similar success in the shot put with a toss of 49-07.75, four feet ahead of the next closest. She also added a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 170-00.
Davin Dollison was also successful in the triple jump. He finished in second on the men's side, jumping 47-04.50, which ranks third in the Summit League.
Justin Kilpatrick won his section of the 100-meter dash, finishing second overall out of 37 in 10.86.
Matt Leal finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.14. Despite taking a tumble, teammate Jeff Liles recovered to finish eighth of 23 competitors in the same event.
In the hammer throw, Nathaniel Marshall's toss of 186-05 ranked fourth, behind only throwers from Illinois and Marquette.
Breanna Moore added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing in 1:05.70.
Haley Calvert finished fifth behind teammate McGlone in the triple jump, leaping 35-03.25.
Ashley Thomas was sixth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.10 meters. Former Leatherneck Nichole Manning won the event at 3.70 meters.
Following a second-place 5,000-meter run performance yesterday, Chase Marlow finished eighth out of 26 in the 3,000-meter run in 8:54.22.
The Leathernecks also received a seventh-place finish from Kiah Clements (100-meter dash - 12.99) and eighth-place finishes from Alycia Thurston (3,000-meter run - 10:36.16), Brandon Clabough (pole vault - 4.30 meters) and Tyler Lippert (shot put - 48-00.00).
Western Illinois will return to the road next weekend, traveling to the SIUE Gateway Classic on Saturday.
