Arnie Grunert Ends Historic Season Placing 20th At The NCAA National Championships

EUGENE, ORArnie Grunert ended his historic Junior season with a 20th place finish at the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Grunert started off the event clearing 5.18 meters on his first attempt with ease moving on to the next height. At 5.32 meters, the Mokena, Illinois native faulted on all three attempts ending a season to remember.

During his Junior season, Grunert finished third in the nation among pole vaulters with an impressive vault of 5.65 M at the Gary Wieneke Memorial meet last month. 5.65 M in the pole vault is also a Western Illinois program record. 

Following his record-breaking vault, Grunert became the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Pole Vault Champion clearing 5.20 M to reach the top of the podium. Arnie would then move on to the NCAA Regionals in College Station, Texas, where he cleared 5.42 M and placed second in the Regional meet. His second place finish qualified him for the National Championships in back-to-back outdoor seasons. Grunert's performance at Nationals makes him an Honorable Mention All-American for the second year in a row.
