Western Illinois Track and Field Starts Outdoor Season At Redbird Challenge

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The WIU Track and Field team starts their outdoor season in strong fashion, earning multiple podium finishes and setting some PR's.

Mya Hippolyte got things started for the Leathernecks, earning second place in the 100 meter sprint with a time of 11.92 seconds. Hippolyte was not finished as she one-upped herself, finishing first overall in the 200 meter race with a time of 24.73 seconds. 

Matthew Thomas earned himself a top 5 finish in the 110 meter hurdle with a time of 16.07 seconds, finishing fourth overall in the event. In the 400 meter race, Edward Clark set a new personal best with a time of 50.27 seconds earning fourth overall in the event. Following right behind Clark was Richard Brown who finished fifth overall with a time of 50.54 seconds. Robert Perry rounded out the individual track events with a top 10 finish in the 1500 meter event. Perry recorded a time of 4:03.88 to finish 10th overall.

The men's 4x400 meter relay rounded off the track events. The team of Richard Brown, Edward Clark, Eason Comer, and Sean Hudspath earned third overall in the event with a time of 3:26.57.

In field events, Rayvon Wright jumped his way into fifth place in the high jump, clearing an impressive 1.95 meters, marking a new personal best. Garrison Murray earned a top 10 finish in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters, finishing seventh overall in the event.

Cage Davidson had an impressive outing in the long jump, recording a leap of 6.91 meters, securing second place in the event. Arnie Grunert made a statement in his return, earning second overall in the pole vault, recording a vault of 5.17 meters. 

Bria Armstrong had an impressive outing, finishing fourth overall in the triple jump with a jump of 11.21 meters.

Dana Surwillo, Emma Ponx, and Colleen Johnson earned a spot in the top 10 during the pole vault event. Johnson reached a height of 3.43 meters earning ninth overall. Surwillo recorded a vault of 3.58 meters,  finishing fifth overall. Ponx continued her hot rum from the indoor season finishing second overall with a vault of 3.73 meters.

The Leathernecks head to St. Louis University for the Billiken Alumni meet on Saturday, April 5.
