Leathernecks head into final week of season

The Western Illinois baseball team plays its final games of the season this week, hitting the road for four games.
On Tuesday, the Leathernecks play their final nonconference game of the season, visiting in-state rival Eastern Illinois.
The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
Last Tuesday the Panthers topped Western Illinois 7-6 in Macomb.
In that game the Leathernecks led 6-5 after seven innings but a two-run eighth by Eastern Illinois gave the Panthers the win.
The Leathernecks then make their final trip of the season to play the final series, visiting North Dakota State for a three-game set, starting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
NDSU took two of three vs. Western Illinois in Macomb earlier this season, winning the first two games 15-6 and 6-4 before the Leathernecks took the final game, 6-2.
 
Headlines
The Leathernecks are coming off a 17-6 win over Murray State on Sunday afternoon. In that game, the Leathernecks scored 10 runs in the fourth inning, the most amount of runs in a single inning for the program since April 30, 2014.
After missing the first game of the series, Nick Mitchell returned the to lineup for the Leathernecks. The freshman is fifth in the Summit in batting average (.337) and seventh in hits (56).
Adam Juran had a season-high five RBI in the victory.
On Sunday, pitcher Jack Bell made his 29th appearance of the season. Bell is one appearance behind Cory Domel for most pitching appearances in a single season (30 in 2000).
 
About the Panthers
Eastern Illinois is 30-18 overall, 10-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference, good for fifth.
The Panthers have dropped three straight, getting swept against Belmont over the weekend.
Ryan Ognoffo leads EIU in batting average (.422), hits (65), doubles (15), home runs (13), total bases (119) and RBI (54).
 
About the Bison
NDSU is 28-16 overall, 15-4 in the Summit League.
The Bison are currently leading the conference based on winning percentage (.789), just ahead of Oral Roberts (15-6, .714). NDSU has won three straight, sweeping Northern Colorado last weekend.
The Bison are second in the Summit League in batting average (.280), runs (271), home runs (44), RBI (246).
On the mound, NDSU is third in ERA (4.67).
