Western Illinois Extends Head Baseball Coach Terry Davis Through 2029

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Athletics announces that Head Baseball Coach Terry Davis has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Leathernecks through the 2029 season.

Since taking over the program in 2024, Davis has helped lay the foundation for the future of Leatherneck Baseball, emphasizing player development, competition, and a culture built on hard work and accountability.

"Coach Davis has shown continual improvement since taking over the baseball program. He recruits high quality student-athletes and has established a strong culture that mirrors the values of the department. I am excited to see what he can continue to do for the program in the upcoming years," said Director of Athletics Shelby Borchardt.

Over the past two seasons, the Leathernecks have shown steady growth, recording their most wins in any two-year stretch in nearly a decade.

"We are excited to continue building on what we have started here in Macomb," said Davis. "While we certainly still have room to grow, the program has made significant strides over the last two seasons."

The 2026 season marked several milestones for the program. The team set a school record for fielding percentage and also broke the single-season program record for walks. Individually, four offensive single-season records were broken in home runs, RBIs, walks, and runs scored, while Liam Bushey finished his career ranked in the top 10 all-time in eight offensive categories.

"Now more than ever, I think it is vital to create stability, trust, and loyalty within any organization and we are excited for the opportunity to finish what we started here in Macomb," Davis said. "We are here. We need your support and lets go chase a championship. GoNecks!"
