Wuestefeld earns All-Summit honors

Senior named Academic All league

MACOMB -- Her record-setting cross country season may have come to an end, but the honors are still rolling in for Western Illinois' Paulina Wuestefeld. After setting a school record in the 6K this fall, Wuestefeld earned another honor, this one for her performance in the classroom, as she was named to the Summit League All-Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday.
 
Wuestefeld, from Duderstadt, Germany, was one of five women named to the team. She carries a 4.0 grade point average and is a Psychology major.
 
"Paulina is an excellent example of what it means to be a successful student-athlete at Western Illinois University," Western Illinois cross country coach Trey Brokaw said. "Besides breaking our school record in cross country this fall, Paulina is also finishing her graduate thesis on dementia caregivers in WIU's General Experimental Psychology program. She's hopeful to be accepted into a Developmental Psychology or Human Development doctoral program next fall."

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
 
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's institutions that carry cross country, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 5 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
