Leathernecks Play Host to 2019 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The three-day meet begins May 8 inside Hanson Field.

Meet Information
For the first time since 2015 and the 11th in The Summit League history, Western will play host to the 2019 Outdoor Championships. The two-day meet is set for May 8-10 and will take place inside Hanson Field. 

Parking: All visitor parking is located in lot Q, directly to the north of Hanson Field
 
Entrances: Spectators may enter Hanson Field at the north gates
 
Ticket Prices: $10 - All-Session Pass; $5 Daily Pass; Age 3 & Under: Free

Western's Last Outing
In their final tune-up before the championships, the Leathernecks split appearances at the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open where there was a school record, an all-time mark, and a win. 

Michaela Busch is in sole position of the women's outdoor heptathlon record, after improving upon her previous point total with 5,009 points at the Drake Relays, and Sierra Long, Megan Reed, Amelia Peterson, and Bo Brasseur joined forces to sit seventh all-time in the 4x200. 

Nationally Ranked
Western Illinois has a long history of successful jumpers. Dating back to 2003, the program has sent 18 to an NCAA Regional and Bo Brasseur has the opportunity to become No. 19.

She enters the Summit League Championship currently ranked No. 40 in the nation in the long jump with a mark of 6.25 meters (20' 6.25"). 

Summit Standings
The Leathernecks sit 'Top 5' in several events on The Summit League's 2019 performance list.  

•    100 meters: Darius Patterson (10.81, 5th)
•    10,000 meters: Lucas Lingle (33:10.01, 3rd)
•    400 hurdles: Josh Kirby (54.76, 4th); Sierra Long (1:03.12, 5th)
•    4x100 Relay: Josh Kirby, Darius Patterson, Isaiah LeSure (41.41, 3rd)
•    4x400 Relay: Lucas Hofer, Josh Kirby, Johnny Dickson, Justin Montalto (3:19.68, 5th); Sierra Long, Bo Brasseur, Michaela Busch, Megan Reed  (3:53, 4th)
•    High Jump: Michaela Busch (1.69 meters, 3rd)
•    Long Jump:  Bo Brasseur (6.25 meters, 1st); Isaiah LeSure (7.33 meters, 3rd)
•    Heptathlon: Michaela Busch (5,009 points, 2nd)

Western Outdoor Marks
The 2019 outdoor season has captured several all-time marks as well as a school record. 

Bo Brasseur has ranked as high as No. 20 in the nation in the long jump, and possess the farthest leap in school history with a 6.25-meter performance at the Tom Botts Invitational (April 19). She holds the Leathernecks' indoor and outdoor records in the event.

A Look Back 
The Leathernecks returned from the Summit League Indoor Championships with three medals, and both the men's and women's programs placed sixth in team standings.

In addition to the silver and bronze medals, Western also added all-time marks in several events: 

•    Busch eclipsed her previous indoor school record in the pentathlon
•    Carrissa Tinsley recorded a 14.03-meter shot put, the sixth farthest throw in program history
•    Nicole Beebe finished the 5,000-meter run in 17:47.47 to jump to seventh all-time
•    Dyllan Bonk and Sierra Long rank eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.06) and 400-meter dash, respectively
•    Brasseur moved to 10th all-time in the 200-meter dash (25.74)
