IOWA CITY, Iowa – Western Illinois begins its home-and-home series with the Iowa Hawkeyes on Tuesday (May 3), traveling to Iowa City... The Leathernecks will play host to the Hawkeyes in two weeks.

KOCH NAMED CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Freshman Ian Koch picked up his first collegiate weekly award as he was selected the Summit League Baseball 'Co-Pitcher of the Week'. Koch, who didn't make it out of the first inning in his first start versus South Dakota State, threw his first collegiate complete game in the 5-1 victory at SDSU last Friday. He scattered six hits, the lone run allowed a solo homer in the seventh. Koch walked two and struck out a career-high seven batters.

CORD FOR FOUR: After entering the North Dakota State series (14 games played) with four hits on the season and no RBI, in the last five contests Cord Church recorded a pair of 4-hit games and seven RBI... Church is 9-of-17 at the plate with two walks and five stolen bases. He boosted his season average from .138 after the Bradley game to a current .283 mark.

SUMMIT LEAGUE AVERAGES: Four Leatherneck starters are above .300 this year in Summit League play... Cord Church (.371) and Roman Visintine (.349) lead the way with Conner Currier (.307) and Chris Tschida (.305) close behind... Visintine (.375) is the only starter hitting above .300 overall this year.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Western ranks 54th nationally with 21 sacrifice flies... Thanks to a season-high nine stolen bases at South Dakota State, the Leathernecks jumped up to 62nd with 1.33 stolen bases per game... Western's Summit League leading 0.36 triples per game rank 37th nationally... Nick Schrader leads the Summit League and is 38th nationally averaging 0.24 sacrifice bunts (9) per game.

TEAM NOTES:
• With one more game played, Roman Visintine will meet all the statistical minimums, and his .375 batting average would lead the Summit League.

• Western's five players with two triples are all tied for fourth place in the Summit League, one shy of the lead.

• The Leathernecks have started seven different pitchers during a weekend series this year... Two of the opening weekend starters have missed most of the season with an injury - Jr/LHP Preston Church and Soph/LHP JT Baksha.

• Steve McShane is ninth in the Summit League going 9-for-13 in stolen bases... With his four steals last weekend, Cord Church moved into 10th place in the league at 8-of-10.

• Conner Currier and Chris Tschida are the top two on the team in walks, with 24 and 23, respectively. Currier is tied for eighth in the Summit League while Tschida is one away from the 'Top 10'.

• Mark Garton became the third active Leatherneck with more than 100 base hits (102), joining Chris Tschida (140) and Adam McGinnis (107).

TRIPLE THREAT: Western knocked another triple on the year during the St. Ambrose game, with Roman Visintine leading off the first inning with a triple off the fence... Visintine moved into a share of the team lead with Chris Tschida, Conner Currier, Drue Galassi and Steve McShane with two each... Western has as many triples (14) than home runs (14) this year.

SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES: Iowa is coming off a home non-conference series against Kansas State, dropping 2-of-3 to the Wildcats... Iowa lost the opener 3-2, won game two 2-1 then dropped the nightcap on Sunday 4-2... The team owns a .266 batting average and impressive .977 fielding percentage (22nd nationally) and 3.86 team ERA... Joel Booker leads the hitting attack at a .333 clip with Nick Roscetti next at .329... Projected starter Cole McDonald has six starts on the year and shared on two shutouts.
