MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois baseball and head coach Ryan Brownlee are ready to kick off the second half of their 2015 Summit League schedule at Fort Wayne this weekend (April 17-18). First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (CT) on Friday (April 17) at Mastodon Field.

The Leathernecks dropped their series and home to IPFW, March 13-15, and will look to rebound after being swept by Oral Roberts in their last league action. WIU looks to draw momentum from a midweek doubleheader split with Milwaukee.

LAST TIME OUT: Western took on Milwaukee in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday (April 14)... The Leathernecks and Panthers split the day with WIU taking game one 6-4 and UWM winning game two 7-1... In the opener J.T. Baksha carried a perfect game into the fourth inning before giving up his first hit... The Leathernecks jumped to an early 3-0 lead... Milwaukee moved ahead with a four-run fifth.... Three runs in the sixth gave Western the win... JJ Reimer went 2-for-2, scoring two of WIU's runs... Baksha earned his second win, limiting UWM to just three hits... Colan Borchers notched his first career save... Western also grabbed a season-high five stolen bases as a team with Adam McGinnis snagging two... Game two of the doubleheader opened with the Panthers scoring five runs in the top of the first... Brent Turner led off the game with a base hit and that would be all the offense for Western until the seventh inning... The Panthers added two more in the top of the seventh... Back-to-back singles from McGinnis and Mark Garton in the bottom half scored Reimer to end the shutout... Reimer ended the day at the plate with two hits in four at bats and three runs scored... Nick Smith was saddled with the loss while. 

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS: Fort Wayne currently sits fourth in The Summit League after taking two out of three games from Omaha last weekend (April 10-12)... In its midweek action IPFW defeated Saint Francis 5-0 while dropping a game to Purdue on April 15... In the first meeting between WIU and IPFW in Macomb Brandon Soat tallied six hits with two doubles, scored two runs, and drove in four... Greg Kaiser notched four hits, two runs, a stolen base and an RBI... On the season Shane Trevino is batting .318 and leads the team with five home runs and 29 runs scored in addition to 32 RBIs... On the mound each Mastodon starter went six innings against the Leathernecks... Evan Miller led the rotation with eight strikeouts and one earned run... Ryan Wells notched six strikeouts, allowing just one earned run as well... So far this season Evan Miller leads all starters with a 4.91 ERA, three wins, and 49 strikeouts... Jake Weber anchors the bullpen with a 3.60 ERA and six saves in 15 appearances.

SERIES HISTORY: WIU and IPFW met for a three-game series in Macomb, Illinois April 13-15... Fort Wayne took two games and the series from Western... The Leathernecks took game on 4-2 before the Mastodons took games two and three, 6-3 and 8-4... The Purple and Gold lead the all-time series 25-15... WIU will look to sweep in Indiana after winning the season series in 2014.

UP NEXT: Following its trip to Fort Wayne, Western will continue its road trip with a game in Peoria, Illinois against Bradley on Wednesday (April 22)... The Leathernecks will continue Summit League play in North Dakota against the Bison, April 24-26, to wrap up seven straight games away from Macomb.

HERE'S THE SITUATION: In 2015 left-handed closer Tyler Owings has faced 20 left-handed batters and only allowed two hits... Chris Tschida leads the team with 15 hits and a .357 average when there are two outs... Jake Moore has notched 20 hits and boasts a .455 batting average with runners on base. 

LEATHERNECKS IN THE SUMMIT: At the halfway point in league play eight Leathernecks rank in The Summit League's 'Top 10' in nine statistical categories... Roman Visintine sits sixth in walks... Adam McGinnis ranks second in hit-by-pitch, and sixth in stolen bases... JJ Reimer comes in third in the hit-by-pitch category... Tyler Owings ranks second in saves... Payton Jeffers sits sixth in sacrifice hits... Tom Constand is just one of seven pitchers to throw a complete game this season... Joe Mortillaro slides in at ninth for total innings pitched... Preston Church ranks sixth in strikeouts.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS: On April 4 on the road against Omaha, senior left-handed pitcher Tyler Owings earned his record-breaking 10th career save... Owings came on in the eighth inning with the tying run on deck and retired the final five Mavericks to get the save... The record was previously held by current minor-leaguer Brian Loconsole.
