NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The
Western Illinois women's basketball team (1-1) competed in its first road game
of the season on Monday (Nov. 14) night at Vanderbilt (2-0). Vanderbilt started
fast and never allowed the Leathernecks to get their game going and went on to
the 95-51 victory.
The Commodores started with a 14-3 lead six minutes into the game powered by 63
percent (5-for-8) shooting. The home team's powerful offense continued as the
first half reached the halfway point when Vanderbilt extended its lead to
27-10.
Sadie Webb
converted a contested layup to reach double-digits for the second straight game
at the 5:20 mark in the first half with Vanderbilt leading 39-17. Vanderbilt
ended the half on a 19-0 run and went into the break with a 55-17 lead.
The Commodores shot 64 percent (21-for-33) from the field including 6-for-11
from behind the arc. Western shot 16 percent (6-for-38) from the field in the
first half and went 3-for-22 from three-point range.
Vanderbilt continued to control the game and held onto a 70-24 lead at the
14-minute mark of the second half. The Purple & Gold shot 33 percent in the
second half but the deficit was too great for the Leathernecks to overcome. The
Commodores improved to 2-0 with the 95-51 victory.

added 10 points to Webb's team-leading 12. Michele
Salvatori bested her previous career-high with 10 rebounds, seven of them
offensive. Four Commodores scored in double-figures led by Jasmine Lister with
15 points and seven assists. Elan Brown collected a team-high nine boards.
The Leathernecks will continue their first road trip of the season as they head
back to Illinois for a clash with Northern Illinois on Wednesday (Nov. 16) at 7
p.m. in DeKalb.
