MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Athletics has announced a contract extension for Head Women's Basketball Coach JD Gravina, ensuring his leadership of the Leatherneck program through April 30, 2030. The extension will take effect May 1, 2026.
Gravina, who enters his 16th year at the helm, has played a key role in elevating Western Illinois women's basketball into a consistent contender. During his tenure, the Leathernecks have made two NCAA Tournament appearances and continued to find success in postseason play, including a WNIT appearance last season highlighted by a first-round victory.
"We are excited to have Coach Gravina continue leading our women's basketball program," said Director of Athletics Paul Bubb. "He understands what it takes to win in the OVC and has built a program that competes at a high level year in and year out."
Over the course of his time in Macomb, Gravina has established a culture centered on toughness, player development, and team-first success. His commitment to the growth of his student-athletes, both academically and athletically, has helped position Western Illinois as a respected program within the conference.
"I'm very thankful for the loyalty and commitment WIU has shown to me over the years," said Gravina. "I'm looking forward to continuing to coach the young women in our program, and this extension allows us to stay focused on the long-term growth of Western Illinois women's basketball. My family and I are grateful to continue calling Macomb home."
Western Illinois Athletics looks forward to the continued success of the program under Gravina's leadership as the Leathernecks build on their foundation and pursue future championships.
