COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Western Illinois baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision to Missouri in a rain-shortened game, Wednesday, March 10.
The Fighting Leathernecks (4-6) scored first when Andrew Hagins scored on a Jason Summers double in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Missouri would respond with six runs on seven straight hits in the bottom of the first to take a 6-1 lead.
The Tigers (5-5) would add four more runs on in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead. Western would strike twice in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 10-3 before storms rolled in and the game was called with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.
Austin Brough (0-2) took the loss for Western while Kelly Fick (1-0) picked up the win for Missouri. Hagins, Summers and Chris Giglio each picked up an RBI. David Hill tossed 2.2 innings of shutout relief for the Leathernecks, extending his scoreless innings streak to 10.0 IP.
The Tigers finished with 10 runs on 12 hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Western picked up three runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
The Leathernecks will travel to Oklahoma State for a two-game set against the Cowboys next week (March 16-17) before a three-game series at UAB (March 19-21).
