Leatherneck Track and Field Turns in Solid Performance at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois track and field competed Friday and Saturday at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, turning in a full weekend of performances against a strong field at Iowa's indoor facility.

The Leathernecks opened the meet with solid results in the sprint events. Freshman Kenneth Cooley led the men in the 60 meters, clocking a 7.19 in the premier prelims before adding a 23.01 in the 200 meters. Jack Knoll and Caleb Brown also doubled in the short sprints, with Knoll running 7.33 in the 60 and 23.61 in the 200, while Brown posted times of 7.29 and 23.75.

On the women's side, senior Mya Hippolyte paced Western Illinois in the 60 meters with a time of 7.76, while freshman Rhianna Davis followed in 7.98. Jolena Site highlighted the women's 200 meters, finishing in 26.09, with Davis adding a 26.62.

Senior Richard Brown delivered one of the top performances of the weekend for the Leathernecks, running 49.38 in the premier section of the men's 400 meters. In the women's 400, Zearra Milburn recorded a time of 1:01.92, while Alyssa Adeoti followed at 1:03.13.

Middle-distance races proved to be a strength for Western Illinois. In the women's 600 meters, Krissy Petrou placed third in 1:45.13, narrowly edging freshman Jayda Stewart, who finished fourth in 1:45.22. Hannah Steinmeyer added another podium finish, placing third in the women's 800 meters at 2:22.47.

Distance events rounded out the meet with strong efforts from the Leathernecks. Freshman Brody Harker recorded a personal best of 4:29.53 in the men's mile and added another PR in the 3000 meters at 9:00.89. Logan Beckmier led the men's 3000 meters with an eighth-place finish in 8:43.94. On the women's side, Lydia Bennett placed fourth in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:24.74, while Emma-Kate Watt finished fifth and set a personal best at 10:27.84.

In the field events, senior Rayvon Wright had a strong weekend, clearing 1.98 meters to place eighth in the premier high jump and finishing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.35 meters. Toriano Tate led the men's long jump group with a fifth-place finish at 7.15 meters, while Cage Davison followed in seventh at 6.99 meters.

On the women's side, Dana Surwillo highlighted the field performances with a runner-up finish in the premier pole vault, clearing a personal-best 3.90 meters. Emma Ponx and Colleen Grunert also posted season-best marks in the event.

The weekend concluded with the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Hannah Steinmeyer, Finley Hancock, Lily Patterson and Marissa Shute finishing in 4:21.71.

Western Illinois will continue its indoor season next weekend at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame
