MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois University women's tennis team opens its fall season this weekend, playing at the SEMO Fall Invite on Friday and Saturday.
The Leathernecks are joined by the University of Missouri- St Louis, Southeast Missouri State, and Maryville. This is the third season under coach Luke Ogren. Last year, the Leathernecks went 12-9 overall.

ABOUT THE LEATHERNECKS | Western Illinois returns 11 players from last year's lineup, including last season's No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, Richardlyne Francois and Nour Gueblaoui. Mana Fawcett and Aubrey Brumbaugh also return for the squad, along with Denver Johnson, Nadezhda Petkova, Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza, Chloe Routier, and Anna-Evelina Trush.
NEW FACES | The Leathernecks tennis team welcomes Maarja Leinstrep and Jessica Hess to the team. Leinstrep is from Tallinn, Estonia, and was previously part of the EKSM tennis club, where she played for over 5 years. She joins a program that has just recorded its most wins since 2018. Hess, a Grabouw, South Africa native, comes to WIU after playing tennis at Southern University.
UP NEXT | Western Illinois is at the Redbird Duals Meet in Normal, Illinois, on September 20 and 21. The Leathernecks then wrap the fall portion of the schedule on September 26 through the 28th, competing in the OVC Tournament.
