WIU Track and Field Excels at Iowa State Classic

AMES, IA. - The Leatherneck Track and Field team continues their run at the Iowa State Classic earning multiple podium finishes.

Dana Surwillo, Emma Ponx dominated in the pole vault event earning the top two spots. Ponx finished in first with an impressive vault of 3.75 meters while Surwillo followed close behind finishing second with a vault of  3.65 meters. Sophomore Matthew Thomas landed himself second on the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.25 meters. 

Cage Davidson continued his impressive performance in the long jump with a leap of 6.81 meters finishing third overall in the event. Rayvon Wright earned a top 10 spot in the long jump as well, jumping 6.51 meters. 

Rayvon Wright continued his run finishing third in the high jump with a jump of 1.95 meters. Following right behind Wright was freshman Garrison Murray who recorded a jump of 1.95 meters earning him the fourth overall spot in the event. 

During the track events, Robert Perry finished eighth overall during the men's 5000 meter race posting a time of 15:05.41. 

Two Leathernecks made the school record book in the 3000 meter race. On the men's side, Logan Beckmier recorded a personal best with a time of 8:34.06 making him the seventh all time in the school record book. On the women's side, Maddie Trevena also recorded a personal best with a time of 10:03.92 claiming the fourth all time spot in school program history. 

Rounding out the field events was the 200 meter race. Edward Clark finished 10th overall with a time of 22.36 seconds and Lucas Burmeister finished 12th overall with a time of 22.50 seconds. 

The Leathernecks head to Washburn University for the Ichabod Invitational on February 14 & 15.
