INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - The WIU Track and Field team had some notable performances including a podium finish and broken records, earning 47 total points.
Emma Ponx started things off for the necks with her performance in the Pole Vault event. Ponx recorded a vault of 3.85 meters to bring home the Bronze for WIU. Ponx was the only Leatherneck to earn a podium finish following a dominant indoor season. Dana Surwillo followed right behind with a vault of 3.85 meters taking fourth place.
Mohammed Baghati ran a personal best in the 800 meter qualifiers finishing top five and earning a spot in the finals. Baghati recorded a time of 1:53.67. Richard Brown competed in the 800 meter qualifiers as well finishing in the top 10 with a time of 1:54.46 but did not qualify for the finals.
Robert Perry showed out in the 5000 meter race not only recording a new personal and becoming the fourth all-time school record holder. Perry recorded a time of 14:57.61 finishing seventh overall and while writing his name in the history books. Logan Beckmier had a notable performance in the 5000 meter race finishing fourth overall recording a time of 14:47.56. The pair of Perry and Beckmier had another top 10 finish in the 3000 meter race.
Sean Hudspath earned a top 10 finish in the mile event with a time of 4:18.09 marking a new season best.
Lydia Bennett recorded a new personal best in the 800 meter qualifiers with a time of 2:21.86 finishing in the top 10. Madison Trevena was another notable performer who finished eighth overall in the 3000 meter race recording a time of 10:16.64.
Jolena Site competed in both the 200 and 400 meter qualifiers. During her 400 meter race, Site recorded a time of 57.41 making her the number 10 all-time school record holder for the event. Site was not finished as she posted a time of 24.95 in the 200 meter dash, crowning her as the new all-time school record holder for the event.
The Leathernecks head to Illinois State University to open up their outdoor season March 28.
