Leatherneck new program mile leader

TOPEKA, Kansas – Logan Lommel is at it again.

One week after setting a new Western Illinois men's indoor track and field record in the 3000, Lommel put his name atop another program mark, setting a new program best in the mile at the Ichabod Relays on Saturday.

Lommel torched the track with a blistering 4:07.17. Lommel's time not only earned him the top spot in program history but the top spot on the podium. Ackeen Colley set the previous record of 4:18.53 in 2022. The mile was the most unbreakable record in program history, not being touched since 1963 before falling twice in two years. Sean Hudspath added a seventh place in the event, finishing in 4:16.96.

When it came to breaking records, Lommel was not the only one.

Just one week after Lucas Burmiester set the program mark in the 200, Jaiden Young equaled him, running the event in 21.79. Young finished the event in 10th.
Also having a strong mile was Maleigha Huston, who finished third in the event in 5:03.5.

In the women's 60, Savannah Harvey ran the eighth-fastest time in program history, crossing in 7.72 seconds. In the women's 200, Aliyah Adams turned in the fourth-fastest time in women's program history, crossing in 25.13, good for 15th overall.

In the men's 600-yard dash, Isaac Jones had a strong showing, finishing second overall. Jones covered the track in 1:12.19. It was also his first time running the event. Jones also added a fifth in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:54.35.

In the women's 4x400 relay, the foursome of Nakeita Kessling, Briza Dure, Passion Crews and Monique Remy finished seventh overall, crossing in 3:58.67.

In the field, Emma Ponx finished second, clearing 12-03.5 feet (3.75 meters). The mark ties the best-ever effort by Ponx and is the fourth-best in the history of the program.

Also earning a second-place finish in the field was Aliyah Adams in the long jump. Adams had a best leap of 19-06.25 (5.95 meters).

In the men's triple jump, Toriano Tate finished fourth overall with a best of 47-09.25 (14.56 meters). Tate also had a fourth-place finish in the long jump. The Leatherneck had a best leap of 24-02.5 feet (7.38 meters).

Also in the field, Arnie Grunert took home top honors. Grunert retired from the event after clearing 16-06.75 feet (5.05 meters). Grunert did not have a miss on the day, clearing his first two heights to win with ease.
