Western Illinois heads down to Nashville, Tennessee, for a weekend series against the Belmont Bruins. The Leathernecks and Bruins will meet this weekend for the first time in program history.

Last Week
Western Illinois headed to in-state rival SIU-Edwardsville this past weekend for a four-game series. Weather postponed Friday night's matchup forcing WIU and SIUE to change their weekend series to three games. In game one, the bats came alive late. After falling behind 2-0 heading into the 9th inning, Nick Mitchell would send a no-doubt grand slam over the right field to put WIU in front 6-2. SIUE would tie the game in the 9th and 10th and come from behind in the 11th to take game one 11-10. SIUE would take control of game two early en route to a 7-3 victory. The Leathernecks pulled out in front late in Sunday's series finale before SIUE would strike for two runs in the 8th and win 8-7. Tuesday's midweek matchup against Missouri saw key hitting become a hit. The Leathernecks were shut out for the second time this season, falling 6-0.

Leading the Pack
Nick Mitchell has been an offensive leader for the Leatherneck this spring. Mitchell leads the Leathernecks in most offensive categories. Mitchell ranks first at the conference level in triples (2) and total bases (39). He is in the top five in batting average (3rd), OPS (2nd), runs (2nd), hits (2nd), doubles (5th), HR (5th), RBI (3rd), SLG % (2nd), BB (4th), OB% (4th).

Free Passes
Western Illinois is the best team in the Summit League at drawing the free pass down to the first base. The Leathernecks have drawn a conference-best 55 walks this season. Jake Allgeyer is the team leader with eight walks. Nick Mitchell, Derek Botaletto, and Chase VanDerGinst are behind with seven. WIU has walked a total of 27 times in their last four games.

Scouting Belmont
Belmont transitions from the Ohio Valley Conference to the Missouri Valley conference this spring. The Bruins, who have played nine of their first 14 games at home, sit with a 6-8 record. Belmont comes off a 4-1 victory against rival Lipscomb on Wednesday. Sam Kirkpatrick leads the Bruins by batting .377, tallying 20 hits.
