Baseball Heads To Little Rock For Four-Game Series

Western Illinois will play in its second series of the 2022 season versus the Trojans.

Western Illinois baseball is back in action this weekend for a four-game series versus the Little Rock Trojans. The Leathernecks will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. A live stream will not be available, but fans can follow along with the live stats option.

Year Three For Pascoe | Manager Andy Pascoe enters his third season as skipper of the Leathernecks. Pascoe is currently the fourth-youngest manager at the Division I level at 33 years and 207 days on opening day.
 
New Coaching Staff | Coach Pascoe welcomed three new coaches to the 2022 team

Last Weekend | WIU began the season with a three-game series at Western Kentucky and went 1-2, with the lone coming from a big offensive game for a 14-7 victory. Western Illinois trailed 3-1 entering the top of the fifth but scored 13 unanswered runs in innings five through eight, including a six-run seventh to earn the first victory of the season.
 
Extra Extra Read All About It | The Leathernecks had a big series in extra-base hits to begin the 2022 campaign, totaling eight doubles, a triple, and a pair of home runs. Western Illinois had just two triples and nine home runs last season.
 
Hitting Squad | After losing his top four hitters from a season ago, Coach Pascoe needed new production in his lineup and found it in four players. Nick Mitchell, Kory Olsen, Derek Botaletto, and Toby Allred combined to put up big offensive numbers versus the Hilltoppers, combining for 22 hits, four doubles, 15 RBIs, and 31 total bases.
 
Long First Hit | The first career hit for CJ Richmond was a memorable one for the Indianapolis, Ind., native. Richmond hit a solo home run to right to begin WIU's six-run seventh inning in their 14-7 win.
 
Starting 1-0 | Winning starts was a big focus for Jace Warkentien heading into this season, and he began his fifth season with a win. Warkentien pitched six innings in WIU's 14-7 victory and allowed two earned runs while striking out six.
 
Scouting the Opposition | Little Rock enters the series 2-1 overall after winning their series versus Eastern Illinois on opening weekend. The Trojans dropped the opening game 11-0 but bounced back with a 10-6 win in game two and an 11-4 win in game three. Little Rock owns a 9-4 record all-time against the Leathernecks. This will be the first matchup between the two programs since March 2013.
