Leathernecks Pick up Series Win in Senior Weekend

The Leathernecks picked up a series win behind an eight inning, 8-5 win over Omaha.

MACOMB, Ill. – Seven seniors played their final Summit League game inside Alfred D. Boyer Stadium Sunday (May 12), and the final decision resulted in an eight-inning, 8-5 success and series win over Omaha.

"This is definitely a much-needed win," said winning pitcher Connor Rektorksi. "It's just a fantastic feeling and definitely brings a lot more positive vibes around the team. It's exciting."

Kevin Raisbeck has reached base in 22 straight games, which is the longest Leatherneck streak this season and the best since former catcher Adam McGinnis recorded 27 back in 2017. Raisbeck drew a 3-0 lead off walk and stole home to even the score at 1-1 at the end of the first inning.

Both teams loaded the bases in the third where Omaha worked for three unearned runs, before Alex Dorethy and the Leathernecks recorded four. The starting pitcher and designated hitter notched a 2 RBI single and later rounded the corners all the way home on Grant Hannant's RBI double.

Dorethy went three full innings with two hits and one earned run in a no-decision as Western led 5-4 at the end of his appearance. Rektorki received his first collegiate win behind a career-high four innings with no runs and two hits. He tallied six straight outs between the sixth and seventh frames.

"I felt really good, honestly. Today was a different day," said Rektorski. "I've been trying to throw a lot longer distances when I'm playing catch with the guys, and it's been paying off. My arm has been feeling a lot better, and it's a pretty big improvement for me."

WIU returns to Alfred D. Boyer Stadium for the final time this season when Iowa comes to town on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for noon.
