Biography

SENIOR (2017): First Team All-Summit League... Academic All-Summit League... Western Illinois Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year... Semifinalist (1 of 15 nationally) for the Johnny Bench Award... led The Summit League in batting average (.355) and on-base percentage (.471), ranked second in doubles (17), third in slugging percentage (.566) and ranked 37th nationally in toughest to strikeout (12.8)... played and started in 48 games... 17 doubles ranked him ninth among the Western Illinois season 'Top 10' leaders... in Summit League games batted .385 and drew 17 walks to just four strikeouts in 96 at-bats... ended his career with a .286 batting average in 185 games played (174 starts)... 34 career doubles and 14 home runs with 98 RBI and 104 runs scored... stole 24-of-36 bases and posted a .987 fielding percentage all-time... ended his career tied for ninth in RBI, ranked eighth in hits, tied for eighth in doubles and sixth in games played... Started games one and four of the opening weekend series... multi-hit game in the finale... finished the Southeast Missouri series 4-for-11 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored... hit the first of consecutive home runs in game two, the first time since 2008 WIU accomplished that feat.... two multi-hit games at Southern Illinois, finishing 5-for-12 with three RBI, two doubles and a stolen base... turned in a .455 on-base percentage in the Fort Wayne series, going 3-for-9 at the plate... recorded three hits in the North Dakota State series with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI... three 2-hit games in the series at Omaha and walked a career-high three times in the finale... scored three runs with three RBI... went 5-for-12 against South Dakota State, including three hits and two doubles in game two of the series... hit 3-run homer against SIUE, part of his 2-for-4 game and season-high four RBI... batted 6-for-13 (including four doubles) at Fort Wayne, scoring four runs with six RBI... two hits and a run scored in the win at Illinois State... 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in the win over Iowa... finished 5-for-13 at South Dakota State, scoring five runs and driving in eight... added two doubles and three home runs, including a career-high two homers in the finale (both 3-run shots)... named Summit League ‘Player of the Week’ on May 8.

Enters his senior year looking to build off his impressive 2016 Summer season... earned Honorable Mention Summer Collegiate All-American honors from Perfect Game... batted .296 with a .525 slugging percentage for the Waterloo Bucks... recorded team-leading numbers with: 19 doubles, 12 home runs, 42 runs scored and drove in 62 runs... played in 68 of the 72 games...  also led the team sacrifice flies (5), while finishing third in walks (25)... among the Northwoods League leaders, was fourth in homers and doubles, third in RBI, and seventh in slugging percentage.

JUNIOR (2016): Played in 47 games and started 40 times... .262 batting average with team-leading nine doubles... 15 runs scored and 15 RBI... walked 17 times... started twice and played in all three games at Tennessee Tech... went 2-for-9 in the series.... .385 on-base percentage during the Northern Kentucky series... started twice at catcher at Arkansas, got a hit in the series finale... extended his hitting streak to six games following a hit in each game of the North Dakota State series... went 4-for-6 at the plate in two games against South Dakota State... solo home run against Illinois Sprinfield... extended his career-best hitting streak to 10 games at Omaha before it coming to an end... picked up a hit at Bradley... finished the Fort Wayne series 3-for-9 with a RBI double... two hits and two runs scored at NDSU... two hits and two walks at SDSU... dropped down a sacrifice bunt for a RBI at Iowa... recorded three hits and two RBI in the home series versus Omaha... hit a double at Fort Wayne with two walks and no strikeouts for a .444 on-base percentage.

SOPHOMORE (2015): Started in 48 of his 49 games played... 11 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games... season-high 4-for-4 with four RBI against SIU Edwardsville... also recorded four RBI in a 2-for-3 effort against nationally-ranked Iowa, scoring three runs that game... had a two-game stretch between SIU-E and South Dakota State where he went 7-for-10 with six RBI and two runs scored... went 6-for-12 in the Fort Wayne series (3/13-15) to start Summit League play with two RBI and three stolen bases... five-game hitting streak to start the month of April, going 7-for-18 with six RBI and five runs scored (Iowa, Omaha, Oral Roberts)... 5-for-11 at North Dakota State with two runs scored... scored three runs and drove in two with a hit, two walks and two hit by pitches in the opener versus Middle Tennessee State... ended the year 11-for-12 in stolen bases.

FRESHMAN (2014): Made 41 appearances during his freshman campaign with 38 starts... 32 starts at catcher, three at third base and three as the DH... first career start came on 3/1 at Evansville... one run and season-high two stolen bases on 3/8 at Indiana State... two hits, two RBI and two runs on 3/10 at Indiana State... two hits, one RBI and one run on 3/11 at #10 Louisville... two hits, including his first career home run on 3/21 vs. Butler... notched a hit in both games vs. South Dakota State to open conference play... two hits at Omaha on 4/6... four multiple-hit games in a row from 4/12 to 4/15... second career home run, a grand slam, came on 4/13 in game one at Fort Wayne... first grand slam for a Leatherneck since April, 2012... ended the game with a season-high five RBIs, the most for any player on the team in 2014... in game two vs. IPFW on 4/13 notched two more hits and scored twice more... two hits, one RBI and one run in the win at Iowa on 4/15... three hits and two runs scored on 4/19 at North Dakota State... three hits and season-high three runs on 4/30 vs. St. Ambrose... two hits, including a double, RBI and run scored in the win over Illinois State on 5/3...two hits vs. Omaha on 5/17... two hits vs. Fort Wayne in the opening round victory at The Summit League Championship... recorded a double and scored a run vs. North Dakota State in The Summit Championship... scored a run in the victory over South Dakota State on 5/23... 13 multiple-hit games during his first season in Purple & Gold.

HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year varsity letterwinner in baseball… hit .486 in 2013 with 34 runs scored, 39 RBI, 15 doubles and three home runs… named Big 12 Conference ‘Player of the Year’ following his senior season… 2013 IHSBCA First Team All-State… MVP of Pantagraph All-Star Game… Part of Big 12 Conference Championship teams in both 2011 and 2013, as well as Regional Championship teams in 2011 and 2012… Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season Honorable Mention All-American… Perfect Game/Rawlings Pre-Season Honorable Mention All-Central Regional… 2012 Perfect Game WWBA Kernels Foundation Championship All-Tournament Team… First Team All-Conference his junior year… Honorable Mention All-Conference sophomore year… 2011 USA Baseball National Team Identifications Series All-Great Lakes Team… finished his high school playing career with the highest career batting average in NCWHS history (.441)… received the IHSA Sporting a Winning Attitude Award… also a three-year varsity letterwinner in basketball… Second Team All-Area and Honorable Mention All-Conference… finished his playing career in the ‘Top 10’ in points, three point shots made, assists and steals at NCWHS… received the Senior Award for Academics, IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award and NCWHS Academic Achievement Award… a Big 12 Scholar Athlete and also a freshman mentor.

PERSONAL: Son of Rich and Robin McGinnis… born October 4, 1994… number one sports highlight was being named First Team All-State his senior year… sister, Erin, plays college basketball at DePauw University, the 2013 DIII National Champions… lists his dad as a major influence on his sports career, “He has always pushed me to do what I wanted to do and has taught me how to work to become successful.”… Hobbies include: Golfing, bowling, hanging out with friends and family, watching movies and listening to music… favorite professional sports teams include the Chicago Blackhawks, Bears, Bulls and Cubs.
