One Last Hoorah at Home

WIU baseball will play host to Iowa Tuesday in its final home game of the 2018 season.

MACOMB, Ill. – Playing host to Iowa on Tuesday, the Western Illinois baseball team will see action inside Alfred D. Boyer Stadium for the final time this season. 

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

RHP Jordan Mikel (1.86 ERA) 

Last Outing
The Leathernecks recorded their fifth series win of the season after taking two ballgames on the road at South Dakota State this past weekend. 

•    Going the distance as Western's longest game this season, game one needed 14 innings to settle a winner; Mitch Ellis and Justin Fitzpatrick (pinch hitting) recorded RBI singles to bring in the go-ahead runs 
•    Steve McShane finished the weekend with a .429 batting average (6-for-14) with a team-high four runs
•    Drue Galassi brought in the most runs (6) and currently ranks second on the team in RBIs (22)
•    Other series wins included a sweep over Omaha, both sets against North Dakota State and the team's first over Oral Roberts

Clinched
After its' success at SDSU, Western Illinois clinched a spot in the upcoming Summit League Tournament. The four-day championship tourney begins May 23 and will be hosted on the campus of Oral Roberts at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Okla. 

Freshman SZN
Coming on in relief, freshmen pitchers Jordan Mikel and Jack Carberry each recorded wins at SDSU. 

Mikel pitched three innings in WIU's 4-3, 14-inning success, where he allowed just two hits and one unearned run. He is currently 3-0 in his rookie campaign and manages a 1.86 ERA in 19.1 innings of action. 

Jack Carberry walked away the victory in Sunday's 9-6 rubber match. He also went three innings inside Erv Huether Field where he surrendered one hit and one run. Carberry is 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA. 

Scouting the Opposition
Iowa (29-18) has two players that have played in every game this season, and both are hitting above .300.

Tyler Cropley has 43 RBIs to go alongside a team-best .364 batting average while Robert Neustrom is managing 33 RBIs with a .328. The pair leads the team with 63 hits. 

On Deck
The Leathernecks will wrap their regular season with three games at Omaha (May 17-19) and a single at Kansas (May 20).
