Chris Tschida Named Summit League 'Player of the Week'

Senior utility player batted .500 on the week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois senior Chris Tschida (Joliet/Joliet Catholic) batted .500 last week and was named The Summit League 'Player of the Week' on Monday. It's his first weekly honor this year and second of his career (March 2015).

Tschida batted 8-for-16 in the four games, hitting two doubles and his first career grand slam in the win over Robert Morris. He knocked two doubles, turned in an .813 slugging percentage and .529 on-base percentage.

The senior, who had just 12 hits in 25 games entering the week, had a pair of 3-hit games setting a season-high. His second 3-hit game came in the Leathernecks' 5-2 win at Oral Roberts, snapping a 38-game losing streak in Tulsa versus the Golden Eagles.

Following his performance last week, he improved his overall batting average from .238 and to .292 over the past 14 games.

Western travels to SIU-Edwardsville on Tuesday (April 4) for a 7 p.m. game then to Omaha this weekend for a three-game Summit League series starting on Friday afternoon.
