Leathernecks Conclude Day Two Of Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational

DAY TWO RESULTS 

MACOMB, Ill. -
 The Western Illinois men and women's track team concluded the second day of the 28th Annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational with Michaela Busch winning the heptathlon, Abbi Smith notching a personal record and Brad Walls recording a personal-best in the hammer throw.
 
Busch went 7-for-7 for the events in the heptathlon, winning the 200-meter dash (27.82), 800-meter run (2:31:02), 100 meter hurdles (15.81), high jump (5-feet-1 ¾ inches/1.57 meters), long jump (15-feet-11 ½ inches/4.86 meters), shot put (35-feet-5 ¼ inches/10.80 meters) and the javelin (82-feet-8 inches). Overall, she totaled 4,254 points.

Abbi Smith and Anika Juerss took home third and fourth place in the women's hammer throw, both recording personal records. Smith threw a total of 47.65 meters (156-feet-4 inches) and Juerrs heaved a total of 45.58 meters (149-feet-6 inches). 
 
On the men's side, Brad Walls finished with a personal-best in the hammer throw, shattering his previous record of 50.34 meters with a total of 57.17 meters (187-feet-7-inches). With that throw he also moved to fourth all-time in program history. 

"Michaela Busch started the day off right with a great performance in her first ever heptathlon. She won all seven events and tallied a nice score," said head coach Mike Stevenson. "Brad Walls and Abbi Smith both came up big in the hammer throw, each notching big PR's. These athletes set the tone for the meet and for our team and we shall see if the rest can rise to the occasion." 
 
Western Illinois returns to action for the final day of the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational, beginning with the women's javelin at 9 a.m. All field events conclude at 2:30 p.m., while the running events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
