Leathernecks Wrap Up Regular Season With Dual Meet At Iowa

Western Illinois heads to Iowa City for a 6 p.m. Friday (Feb. 3) meet

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois swimming and diving finishes its regular season slate by traveling to Iowa City for a dual meet on Friday (Feb. 3) at 6 p.m. against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The event is the Leathernecks' final competition before The Summit League Championships from Feb. 15-18.

LAST TIME OUT: Erica Hagen won three individual events in Saturday's (Jan. 28) dual meet at Washington University in St. Louis. The sophomore first dominated the 100-breast, and won the event by nearly three seconds in 1:06.71. She then took the 200-breast in 2:28.87 before annihilating her competition by more than seven seconds in the 200-IM (2:15.76). Hagen also teamed with Madison Chao, Miranda Mathus and Casey Roberts to give Western a win in the 200-medley relay (1:51.39). Still, Western Illinois suffered a pair of defeats in the competition, with the women falling 192-101 and the men stumbling 175-105. On the men's side, Chris Neaveill raced to a 47.57 time in the 100-free to win by less than a half-second. The Leathernecks also saw Samir Almhiemid take the 100-fly in 52.52, with Chance McQuigg rolling to win the 200-IM (2:01.20). McQuigg also placed second in the 100-breast (59.03).

UP AHEAD: Western Illinois will have about two weeks off from competition before participating in The Summit League Championships from Feb. 15-18 in Indianapolis, Ind. Last season, the Leatherneck men finished fourth while the women settled for seventh in the four-day event.
