Bladel Returns to Podium as Leathernecks Continue to Rewrite Record Book

The senior Brennan Bladel focused to claim another bronze medal and a pair of women's swimmers set 'Top-10' marks on the third day of The Summit League Championships.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Western Illinois swimming and diving continued to break into the program's 'Top-10' list and Brennan Bladel returned to the podium on day three of The Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on Friday (Feb. 21). 

In the preliminary round, Tyler Cunningham won the second heat of the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.66.  
 
Bladel picked up his second individual bronze medal in as many days after completing the 100-yard back in 49.97 to slide into third-all time in school history.
 
"I wouldn't be able to do it without the support of the team," Bladel said. "All of the support from everyone got me through the night. Last one. Fast one."
 
Allison Spielman tied for second place in the 100-yard back consolation final after touching the wall in 59.00 seconds to move into fifth all-time and Miranda Mathus was right behind with a time of 59.66 for ninth in program history.
 
Western will conclude the 2019-20 season at the Midco Aquatic Center Saturday (Feb. 22).
