Bladel and Peterson Earn Bronze on Day Two

Adam Peterson and Brennan Bladel both broke school records on their way to the podium.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Western Illinois swimming and diving amassed two school records, two bronze medals and two 'Top-10' marks on the second day of The Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare on Thursday (Feb. 20). 

Adam Peterson began the day by breaking his own school record with a time of 20.29 in the 50-yard freestyle, but he wasn't done. Peterson broke that same mark later on in the finals at 20.08 to claim a bronze medal.
 
Brennan Bladel also found himself on the podium with a bronze medal after shattering the program's 200-yard IM record with a time of 1:49.77.
 
Garret Kemp took first place in the 100-yard butterfly consolation final after touching the wall in 50.29 seconds to move into ninth all-time at WIU, just behind his 2019 time (50.22).

On the women's side, Miranda Mathus cracked the 'Top-10' all-time in school history in the 100-yard butterfly after turning in a time of 58.86. Mathus also started off the 200-yard free relay (1:38.17) along with her teammates Allison Spielman, Anika Gram and Casey Roberts.
 
Western returns to the Midco Aquatic Center Friday (Feb. 21) at 10 a.m.
