Women's Soccer Releases 2016 Schedule

Leathernecks to play eight matches at home

MACOMB, Ill. – Director of soccer Dr. Eric Johnson announced the 2016 women's soccer schedule on Thursday (June 30). The upcoming campaign features 20 matches, including two exhibitions. Eight of the matches will be played at John Mackenzie Alumni field in Macomb while 12 will be played on the road.
 
The Purple and Gold kick off the season with an exhibition against Valparaiso at home on Aug. 9. Western then plays its final exhibition match against the UMKC 'Roos in Kansas City on Aug. 13 before opening the regular season with four straight road matches.
 
The Leathernecks' begin the regular season with their longest road swing of the year, opening the season at William Penn on Aug. 15 before playing matches at Indiana State (Aug. 19), Chicago State (Aug. 21) and Northern Illinois (Aug. 28).
 
WIU returns home to play Milwaukee on Sep. 2 before hitting the road again for a contest against Western Michigan on Sep. 4.
 
After a matchup against North Dakota in Macomb on Sep. 9, the Leathernecks travel to Iowa for contests against Drake (Sep. 14) and Northern Iowa (Sep. 18).
 
Western opens up a three-game home stand on Sep. 25 beginning with Missouri State. Summit League play kicks off in Macomb the following week when both Denver (Sep. 30) and South Dakota (Oct. 2) visit Macomb.
 
The Leathernecks play two more league matches at home against Omaha (Oct 16) and Oral Roberts (Oct. 30). Western takes on South Dakota State (Oct. 7), North Dakota State (Oct. 9), Fort Wayne (Oct. 21) and IUPUI (Oct. 23) on the road.
