MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois women's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw on the road Sunday afternoon against UT Martin at Skyhawk Soccer Field.
The Leathernecks (1-16-1, 0-7-1 OVC) fell behind late in the first half when UT Martin scored off a corner kick in the 38th minute, but Western answered in the 72nd. Hattie Mourning came off the bench to net the equalizer — her first goal of the season — off a setup from Claire Brown to even the score.
Western Illinois tallied 12 shots, including 10 in the second half, while goalkeepers Lillian Johns and Ariel Bernard combined for 10 saves to keep the Leathernecks in it. Johns stopped five shots in the first half, and Bernard added five more after the break.
Mourning's finish highlighted an improved second-half effort for Western, as the Leathernecks controlled possession and created several late scoring opportunities.
Western Illinois will wrap up their season next week at home against USI.
