Leathernecks Close Home Schedule on Tuesday

Baseball plays host to Iowa, first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois baseball closes out its home schedule, playing host to Iowa on Tuesday afternoon (May 17). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

PITCHING MATCH-UP: Freshman right-hander Cole McDonald will face fellow freshman right-hander Jimmy Perkins.
 
LAST MEETING: Western Illinois out-hit Iowa, but the Hawkeyes wound up scoring nine unanswered runs during the middle innings in a 10-4 decision at Duane Banks Field… Chris Tschida matched a season-high with three hits… Roman Visintine added two hits as did Conner Currier… Western held a 13-11 edge in hits… Making his first start of the year, Ricky Digrugilliers allowed one run on two hits in two innings… Dave Dobrinich did not allow a run in 1.1 innings of relief and Colan Borchers followed by working a scoreless eighth inning.
 
CURRIER HITS 15: Junior Conner Currier extended his hitting streak to 15 games following the Omaha series… Currier improved his overall batting average to .322, now 10th in the Summit League, with a .417 on-base percentage.
 
WESTFAHL HITS TOP 5: Junior Nate Westfahl moved into a five-way tie for third place on the season 'Top 10' when he recorded his fifth save on the year with the series opener against Omaha… He also created an eight-way tie for fourth place all-time with his fifth save as a Leatherneck.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Western travels to Fort Wayne for the Summit League finale versus the Mastodons. The three game series starts Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. central.
 
TOURNAMENT SCENARIO: With the top four teams advancing to next week's Summit League Tournament in Tulsa, Western Illinois currently sits in a tie for fourth place at 11-16… The Leathernecks are tied with Fort Wayne, and just one game behind South Dakota State and one ahead of North Dakota State… Western must win 2-of-3 this weekend in Fort Wayne to clinch a postseason berth… Depending on the outcome of both series, Western could move into the third-seed.
