MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -
Western Illinois women's golf wrapped up action in The Citadel's 2016 Bulldog Invitational Tuesday afternoon, finishing in sixth place with a score of 639.

"Today was a tough day for us. We didn't putt as well as we needed to on the over seeded Bermuda, and we had some errant iron play," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "However, I was pleased with freshman Mariah Peters' performance. She had a season-best, two-day total for us. Sophomore Alex Krehbiel also had a solid round today. Looking ahead to our next event, at Tennessee Tech, we will need to practice our short game and iron play in order to continue to improve."

Western was led by Peters who fired a season-best score of 154 and finished in 10th overall. The freshman carded single-round marks of 76 and 78.

Sophomore Allie Leingang, who shot an even par 72 in the opening round, finished round two with an 83 and tied for 11th overall with a two-round score of 155.

Krehbiel, who golfed as an individual, finished third in the team standings with a 160. The sophomore opened with an 82 in round one before carding a 78 in the second round, which tied for the team lead during day two.

Three Leathernecks finished in the 160s in junior Anna Cullinan, and seniors Julie Whalen and Allison Farrell. Cullinan shot a 165 (84-81) and tied for 36th, Whalen finished with a 167 (84-83) and tied for 43rd, and Farrell recorded a 168 (82-86) and finished in 48th.

Freshman Katie McTaggart rounded out WIU's participants, golfing as an individual, and finishing in 54th with a 179 (86-93).

Western is back in action on March 21-22 at Tennessee Tech's spring event.
