MACOMB, Ill- Western Illinois Women's Golf wrapped up their final tournament on Tuesday before heading into the OVC Championships this weekend. The Leathernecks finished the Stampede at the Creek tournament in fourth place as a team shooting a 933 (+69).
Abby Hunter led the way for WIU at the tournament, tying for third overall after entering the final round in first place with a two-stroke lead (+4). This was Hunter's first top-five finish of her career and finished with a three-round total of 227 (+11). Her best performance came in the opening round, where she shot a 73 (+1). Hunter recorded three birdies in round one, shooting a 34 (-2) on the front nine with birdies on holes five and eight. She added another birdie on hole 18 to finish the back nine with a 39 (+3). In round two, Hunter shot a 75 (+3), picking up her lone birdie on hole 11. She wrapped up the tournament with a 79 (+7) in the third round.
Olivia Kerr picked up her second straight top-10 finish, placing ninth overall. Her standout performance came in round two, where she fired a 71 (-1), collecting five birdies with three of them on the front nine to finish with a front nine score of 33 (-3).
Rounding out the scoring for the Leathernecks were Sophia Thorne (+21), Mia Scrimgeour (+23), Olivia McCrystal (+27), and Gabriela Galindo Rubio (+43).
WIU now turns their attention to the OVC Conference Championships, which runs from Sunday, April 13 through Tuesday, April 15 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
