Leathernecks Finish 4th in Indiana State Spring Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Western Illinois women's golf team wrapped up the 2015 Indiana State Spring Invitational in fourth place with a 624 after recording two of the team's lowest marks of the season, a 311 and a 313.
 
"We had two really solid days," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. " This is where I knew we could be as a team. We had some good individual performances, and it's a good spring board heading into The Summit League Championships."
 
Leading the way for the Leathernecks and firing a career low score was sophomore Jessica Schultz. The sophomore finished tied for eighth overall with a 154 after hitting marks of with a 78 and 76.
 
The 76 marked a new career best for Schultz as last season she fired her previous career-best of 77 in The Summit League Championships.  Her previous career best in a 36-hole invite was 157, which she recorded in the 2014 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
 
Sophomore Anna Cullinan and freshman Allie Leingang both tied for 15th with scores of 156. Cullinan opened with a 76 and finished with an 80, and Leingang tallied a 78 in both of her rounds. The two-round score of 156 marked a season best for Leingang.
 
Tying for 22nd was Ashley Jeffers. The senior golfer used a 79 in each of her rounds to record a 158.
 
Senior Jessica Knepp rounded out the team's 'Top 5' with a 172 (86-86) and finished in a tied for 66th.
 
Junior Julie Whalen, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 51st with a 166 (82-82).
 
The Leathernecks are finished with the regular season portion of their schedule and will compete in The Summit League Championships April 19-22.
