Loconsole pitched for the Leathernecks from 2011-2013.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Former Western Illinois relief pitcher Brian Loconsole made his spring training debut for the Los Angeles Angels on Friday (March 20) against the Cleveland Indians. Loconsole recorded the final two outs of the fifth inning, recording one strikeout on no runs and one hit.

The Carol Stream, Illinois native came on in relief for Hector Santiago with one out and nobody on base. He forced Carlos Santana to pop out on the first pitch for the second out before giving up a double to Yan Gomes. Loconsole closed the inning and his debut with three straight strikes to Ryan Raburn who went down swinging.

The right-handed reliever pitched for Western Illinois from 2011-2013 before getting drafted by the Angels in the 20th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft. He was sent to the Angels' rookie affiliate, the Orem Owlz, in Utah where he pitched 26.2 innings in 17 appearances. In 2014, Loconsole was moved to single A, Burlington, posting a 1.68 ERA in 34 games with 51 strikeouts in 69.2 innings of work for the Bees.

While at Western, Loconsole made 40 appearances with 37 strikeouts and nine saves over 54.1 innings. His nine saves ranks first in program history on both career and single-season lists. His most notable save opportunity came on February 17, 2013 at No. 1 Arkansas where he pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed no hits or runs for his first-career save.

Loconsole continues to be involved with Leatherneck baseball, attending the 2015 Lead Off Dinner and training in Macomb during the offseason.
