MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois rallied late but came up just short in a 4-3 loss at Morehead State for game 2 of the series.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Leathernecks answered in the third. Joe Connolly doubled to start the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Liam Bushey. Wandel Campana followed with a two-out solo home run to right center, his fourth of the season, tying the game at 2-2.
Morehead State regained the lead in the bottom of the third and held the advantage until the eighth inning when Western Illinois evened the score once again. Connolly reached on a double and later crossed the plate on Bushey's second RBI of the game to make it 3-3.
The Eagles answered in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off RBI double to secure the 4-3 victory. Connolly finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Campana recorded a homer and an RBI. Bushey drove in a pair of runs for the Leathernecks.
The Leathernecks will finish up their series against the Eagles tomorrow before coming home.
