DAYTON, OHIO - The Western Illinois men's tennis team kicked off its Spring Break road-swing Monday (March 16) afternoon, taking on Wright State. The Raiders got the best of the Leathernecks, taking a 7-0 decision. Western moved to 0-11 (0-2) with the defeat, while Wright State improved to 7-9.
"We began today's match with a competitive mindset," said head coach
Mashiska Washington. "Although WSU was able to rally each match in their favor, we put forth our best effort until the very end."
Wright State opened the match with a sweep of the doubles point. The duos of

Anthony Timberlake were unable to gain any traction as they each dropped 6-0 decisions at the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively.
Chris Bunch and
Ross Smith battled at the No. 2 position, falling 6-2.
In singles action, the Leathernecks couldn't mount a comeback, as the Raiders took all six singles matches in straight sets. Bunch competed at the top spot, and after fighting to the end of the first set, dropped his match, 7-5, 6-0. Pavlovic and Sawhney competed at the No. 2 and 3 singles spots and each fell by a 6-1, 6-0 final. Sanders, Smith, and Timberlake rounded out the Leatherneck roster, as each fell by 6-0, 6-0 scores at the No. 4, 5, and 6 positions.
Western Illinois remains in Ohio for its next match as they make the short drive to Cincinnati to take on Xavier. First serve is set for 12 p.m. (CT).
