FINAL RESULTS

CLINTON, Ohio – The Western Illinois women's golf squad jumped from ninth place after the first two rounds of Toledo's Rocket Classic into sixth after putting together the second best score from the invite's third and final round. After recording marks of 329 and 325 in rounds one and two, the Fighting Leathernecks fired a 305 in round three giving them a three-round score of 959.

"Very pleased with an excellent last round. It is our low round so far this fall," said head coach Lia Beihl Lukkarinen. "It was a very tough golf course and a strong field. We had a nice couple of low scores during the final round, we improved during each round, and our mental game was strong. Allie (Leingang) had a great finish with a final round of 73 so I was pleased to see her finish strong and in the top 10. We will try to focus on strengthening our short game and work on staying in the moment for our next tournament in Missouri."

Leading the way for WIU and finished tied for eighth place was sophomore Allie Leingang. It marked the best finished of the Columbia, Ill. native's career, and her three-round total of 230 also marked a career-best. Leingang opened with an 84 before carding back-to-back 73s in the final two rounds. The two rounds of 73 are the second-lowest scores the sophomore has recorded in her career.

Competing as an individual was Julie Whalen who tied for 13th place overall with a three-round score of 233. The senior used scores of 78, 80 and 75 to total her 233, and the final score was a three-round career best. Her 75 in round three was the second lowest score of her career.

Anna Cullinan finished tied for 28th place with a score of 239. The junior recorded a 78 in round one, an 85 in the second round and a 76 in the third round.

One stroke behind Cullinan was sophomore Alex Krehbiel who finished with 240 (83-83-74) and tied for 30th. Krehbiel's score of 74 in round three ties her career low.

Senior Allison Farrell and freshman Mariah Peters round out Western's top five. Farrell tied for 46th place with a 250 (84-84-82) and Peters finished in 59th with a 267 (89-88-90).

The Leathernecks play in their final event of the fall season Oct. 12-13 when they head to Springfield, Mo. for Missouri State's Payne Stewart Memorial at Twin Oaks Country Club.
