Leatherneck Women's Golf Concludes Action in Missouri State's Payne Stewart Memorial

FINAL RESULTS

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Western Illinois women's golf team wrapped up action in the 2015 Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 13). It was the final 2015 fall event for the Fighting Leathernecks. WIU finished in sixth place with a 948 after posting scores of 311, 312 and 325 in the three rounds.

"Overall it was a successful event for us. Anna (Cullinan) and Allie (Leingang) each had a good tournament," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "As a team we made quite a few birdies, but struggled on a few holes today (Tuesday) that hurt our team score. We made a lot of progress this fall season and will build on that heading into our spring schedule."

Sophomore Allie Leingang and junior Anna Cullinan tied for the team lead, and tied for 16th overall with a score of 234. Leingang recorded marks of 77, 75 and 82, while Cullinan's three rounds included scores of 75, 80 and 79.

One stroke behind WIU's leaders was Alex Krehbiel who finished tied for 21st overall. The sophomore finished with a 235 after hitting a 76 in round one, a 79 in round two and an 80 in the third round.

Seniors Julie Whalen and Allison Farrell rounded out WIU's top five. Whalen finished tied for 33rd with a 246 (84-78-84), while Farrell finished in 43rd place with a 251 (83-83-85).

Freshman Katie McTaggart wrapped up play as an individual in a tie for 45th with a 257 (84-90-83).

Western will look to continue to improve in its spring slate heading into The Summit League Championships, which are scheduled for April 18-20 in Nebraska City, Neb.
