Tenth Annual Art Peterson Invitational Marks Beginning of 2014-15 Season

Fighting Leatherneck Men's Tennis plays host to four teams beginning Friday (Sept. 5).

MACOMB, Ill. – Fighting Leatherneck men's tennis begins the 2014-15 season with the tenth annual Art Peterson Invitational, starting Friday (Sept. 5). Western Illinois will be one of five teams competing in the event this season.

Head coach Mashiska Washington begins his second year in charge of the men's tennis program. In last year's event, the Leathernecks took home three titles, two individual and one doubles.

Western Illinois plays host to South Dakota State, Lindenwood, Southern Indiana and Truman State during the two-day invitational.

The Fighting Leatherneck roster features two returners and two newcomers. Christoph Haertel and Chris Bunch will lead the way for the Leathernecks in 2014. Haertel returns after a full-season at No. 1 singles as a freshman. Bunch went 4-6 during singles play, at both No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

Surya Sawhney and Collin Adams look to add depth to the young team in 2014.

Play begins at 9 a.m. on both Friday (Sept. 5) and Saturday (Sept. 6). Friday's matches will be held at WIU's Tennis Facility and at Macomb High School. All matches on Saturday will be held at WIU's Tennis Facility.
