Holt and Smith pace Leathernecks at Bradley Intercollegiate

Mark Holt and Lydia Smith both turned in top 30 finishes on Friday (Sept. 12) in Peoria, Ill.

PEORIA, Ill. - Western Illinois men's and women's cross country teams were led by their senior captains at the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria on Friday (Sept. 12) as Mark Holt finished 15th for the men in the 8K (25:55.9) and Lydia Smith finished 27th in the three mile race (18:20.8). Friday marks the second time this season both seniors have finished in the top 30.

"I was happy with the way the team performed," said coach Russell Peterson. "It is in line with the current training progression."

Despite the performances of Holt and Smith the Western runners fell in five of their six dual matchups with WIU's women taking home the lone victory over Chicago State (19-36).

The Leatherneck runners will return to the competition course on Friday, October 3 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
