Tyler Willman, Jameson Henning Picked in 12th Round of MLB Draft

Jameson Henning was selected by the San Francisco Giants and Tyler Willman was taken by the Oakland Athletics on Day 3 of the MLB Draft on June 7.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois baseball's Jameson Henning and Tyler Willman were selected in the 12th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft on Saturday (June 7). Henning was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 358th overall pick, while Willman was taken 14 selections later by the Oakland Athletics (372).

The two selections for Leatherneck baseball in the draft marks the first time since 1994 that two WIU baseball players were selected in the same draft and the first time in program history that two Leathernecks were taken in the first 12 rounds.

Henning is the highest WIU draft pick for a position player in program history and the highest overall Leatherneck selection since 1985.

A Janesville, Wis. native, Henning concluded his redshirt-sophomore campaign in 2014 with a .310 batting average and was a Second Team All-League selection. The shortstop was second on the team in runs (29), hits (61) and doubles (8), and fourth on the team in stolen bases with 12.

Willman is the highest selection for a WIU pitcher since '85 and the highest right-handed pitcher taken since 1970.

Willman finished his junior campaign with a 3-3 mark on the mound and a team-best 63 strikeouts. The Oshkosh, Wis. native threw a team-high 83.2 innings during the season, which is the eighth-most innings pitched in a season in program history. The righty was also tabbed First Team All-League, becoming the first WIU pitcher since 2006 to earn the recognition.

Henning and Willman helped Western Illinois reach the Summit League Tournament title game for the first time since 2006.
