The first win in 2013 and the first in the Ryan Brownlee coaching era came on February 17 at #1 Arkansas. The Leathernecks traveled to Fayetteville and took down the Razorbacks 7-5 in the Sunday finale in front of nearly 6,000 fans.
The win was a milestone in Leatherneck baseball history as it was the first time a Leatherneck team has defeated a #1 team in the country. The win surpassed the 2008 team beating then 4th-ranked Missouri and is also the second year in a row that Western baseball defeated a 'Top 10' team in the nation (#8 Georgia – 2012).
Brent Turner and Jameson Henning each posted two hits apiece for the Leathernecks in the win while Turner and Dan Dispensa crossed the plate twice. Erik Maki and Zack Burling also recorded one hit and run apiece for Western.
Mason Pingel picked up the win and would be named Summit League 'Co-Pitcher of the Week' after throwing 5.0 innings with five strikeouts. Brian Loconsole threw the final 1.2 innings for the Purple & Gold and picked up his first career save after allowing no hits or runs.
The win sparked a 19-win season for Leatherneck baseball, the most wins for the team in two seasons and the most for a first-year head coach. Henning was also named a primetime performer by collegebaseball360.com following the series after he posted four hits in the three-game set.
