ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
The
Western Illinois football team landed a Missouri Valley Football
Conference-leading four student-athletes on the 2011-12 President's Council
Academic Award. The 2011-12 MVFC Honor Roll was announced by the conference
office on Friday (May 18).
Western
had four of the 17 MVFC student-athletes who received the league's highest
academic achievement. The President's Council Academic Award requires a minimum
3.50 cumulative grade point average (through Fall 2011 semester) and two years
participation in football. The student-athlete must also be within 18 hours of
graduation.
Josh Gabelmann (Bettendorf,
Iowa/Bettendorf), Myers Hendrickson
(Macomb/Macomb), Kevin Palermo (West
Chicago/Driscoll Catholic) and Rick Richardson (Arlington Heights/Prospect) represented the Leathernecks on the
President's Council Award. The four seniors all finished their playing career
last fall.
In
all, 28 Leathernecks were honored by the MVFC. To qualify for the Honor Roll, a
student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.00 grade point average for a
specified term (Fall 2011), must have been a member of the football team, and
have a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment in the fall. The Commissioner's
Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.2 GPA for the previous two
semesters and freshmen are not eligible.
