KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Fighting Leatherneck swimming and diving fell in dual meet competition at Truman State 137-125 (men) and 186-75 (women) on Saturday (October 27). The squad was able to post 53 season personal bests at the meet and secured six first place finishes and 16 runner-up spots.

"We had a pretty solid meet top to bottom compared to what we've done at this time a year ago, as well as what we did against Saint Louis," head coach Greg Naumann said. "I really thought we had a chance to pull out a win on the men's side, but we came up a little short. Some of that was due to some of the training that we did over the course of the past week, and the other was that Truman State definitely had a home pool advantage. We had a high percentage of in-season best times, which was to be expected, but many of those in-season best times also beat what they did a year ago against Truman State. We were able to offset some of their first place finishes by getting seconds and thirds, but they were able to best us a little bit more on the men's side and a lot more on the women's side.  Overall, I am happy with what we did at the meet, and it gives us a great amount of excitement as we move to the next couple of meets."

Tyler Neaveill paced the men with two first place finishes in the meet. He won the 50 free (22.01) posting a new personal record, the 100 free (48.84) and swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay (Jonathan Bond, Dylon Rykosky, Austin Payne and Neaveill), which earned a new season best time and a first place finish.

Also contributing individual event titles and recording season best times for the men's team were Bond (100 back-54.30), Jacob Shain (200 fly-2:00.98) and JD Furr (200 breast-2:16.19).

In women's competition, Julia Rassmussen recorded runner-up finishes and season times in 50 free (26.01) and 100 free (55.27) competition. She also anchored the 400 free relay team (Lizzie Hollopeter, Mary Betsworth, Haley Brasile and Rassmussen) and 400 medley relay team (Hollopeter, Sarah Rosenhauer, Kelsey Kirchhoefer and Rassmussen), which both earned their top times of the year and a second place finishes.

Also taking runner-up spots were Megan Popp in the 1000 free (11:15.90) and the 500 free (5:31.12), Rosenhauer in the 100 breast (1:10.89) and Kirchhoefer in the 200 fly (2:21.59).

The Leathernecks are back in the water on Saturday (November 3) in a dual meet competition at Valparaiso. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Valparaiso, Ind.
