MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois Men's Tennis team will look to solidify its position at the top of The Summit League standings when it travels to IUPUI for a single match beginning at noon on Saturday, April 9.
The Fighting Leathernecks (7-12, 3-0) are coming off a hard-fought, 4-3 loss to Saint Louis this past Sunday. The loss to the Billikens snapped a three-match winning streak for Western, which went 3-0 in its first weekend of league play.
The Jaguars (6-12, 3-1) dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 23 Notre Dame on Sunday. IUPUI currently sits in third place in The Summit League behind UMKC (2-0) and Western Illinois.
Patrick Hammers enters the weekend matchup on a six-match winning streak at the No. 3 singles position. Jeff Cote has won three in a row at the No. 1 spot while Mandela Shepard is on a four-match winning streak at No. 2 singles.
IUPUI downed the Leathernecks by a 4-3 score during the regular season last year. Western Illinois defeated the Jaguars, 4-0, during the 2009 season.
Western Illinois was also set to host Roosevelt University on Sunday but that match has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict with Roosevelt.
